Kawasaki pulls out of MotoGP
Kawasaki announced, after much speculation, that it will be pulling out of the 2009 Moto GP series due to the economic downturn. Kawasaki has raced Moto GP for five years, but never had much success in the Valentino Rossi era. Accordingto Kawasaki's press release: "In a quick-changing business environment, Kawasaki have been promptly taking countermeasures to cope with the situation. As the world economy is not likely to recover in a short period due to the major impact of the financial crisis, Kawasaki have decided to suspend their MotoGP racing activities from 2009 season onwards and reallocate management resources more efficiently. Kawasaki will continue racing activities using mass-produced motorcycles as well as supporting general race-oriented customers." "Mr. Yoshio Kawamura, the managing director of Kawasaki Motors Racing BV, deeply appreciates the contribution and the dedication brought by staff members of the MotoGP team." Kawasaki joins Honda (who dropped out of both AMA road racing and Formula 1), Suzuki (who withdrew from the World Rally Championships – WRC), Yamaha (who appears to have dropped their Supermoto effort through Graves Racing) and KTM (Supermoto looks to be the victim again)
